Centrifugal pump is defined as a mechanical device used to transfer liquid of various types. As the name suggests, it relies on the principal of Centrifugal force, it converts the energy provided by a prime mover, such as a steam turbine, electric motor or gasoline engine, to energy within the liquid being pumped.
There are three types of centrifugal pumps: axial-flow centrifugal pump, radial-flow centrifugal pump and mixed centrifugal pump . Axial-flow centrifugal pumps generate pressure through the direct action of the impeller on the liquid. Radial-flow centrifugal pumps create pressure by using centrifugal. Mixed centrifugal pumps produce pressure by using both centrifugal force and the impeller force on the liquid.
Many industries use centrifugal pumps including cryogenic technology, dairy farmers, energy industries, food service, construction, distilleries, etc. There are also many customized types of centrifugal pumps such as ballast and bilge pumps (on almost all vessels or on board), drum centrifugal pumps; mill centrifugal pumps (in the sewer system); magnetic drive centrifugal pumps (commonly used in laboratories, chemical processing).
